Pelosi: Don't Let GOP Turn Back Clock on Women

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is suggesting in a letter to Democratic women that if they don't donate and show up to vote in the midterm elections it could mean a rollback of women's rights.

The letter includes a donation button that says "Don't Let the GOP Turn Back the Clock for Women," and reads in part: "Republicans have pledged to dismantle our most historic achievements for women and families, including a repeal of health insurance reform that has ended the days where being a woman in America qualifies as a pre-existing medical condition."

The letter also suggests - without support -- that "unless we stop the Republicans, this year may be the first year in 30 years that the number of women in Congress actually decreases."

Pelosi wrote the letter under the banner of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is trying to raise $500,000 before Friday. It has targeted women voters to help reach that goal and mount a surge against Republicans with just three weeks left until the midterm elections.

"Women have the most to gain from this election," said Pelosi in the letter. "We also have the most to lose."

Women have historically been inclined to vote Democrat, and an Associated Press-GfK poll late last month found that among registered voters women prefer Democrats over Republicans by a 12-point margin.

"Since 2006, Democratic women have known their power in elections," Pelosi said in the letter.

Pelosi also suggests that Republicans could reverse the Lilly Ledbetter legislation offering greater equal pay rights to women if they take back either of houses of Congress.

In recent weeks, President Obama has reached out to African-Americans and college students - who heavily supported him in the 2008 election - in an effort to boost participation in the midterms by his party's base.

Carl Paladino initiated a new the Tea Party / Republican policy to disenfranchise women (can calls to repeal the 19th amendment women's right to vote be far behind) in terms of politics as HE BANNED WOMEN from two of his campaign events.

variablespanner, the problem you are having is people with a sane mind don't believe you. The vast majority of Americans are sane. You are only hurting your cause by making outragous statements and people look at you and say "this person is absolutely crazy".

update Mortar -- Ken Buck (CO) has joined Sharron Angle (NV) and Joe Miller (AK) supporting rapists rights - requiring rape victims to give birth and be the sole support for their rapist's babies, while the government provides the RAPIST free medical care, housing and food and a small income to purchase luxury items in prison. -- WHO is expected to suffer cruel and unusual punishment after a rape according to these Tea Party Republicans -- THE VICTIM. Then there is the PREGNANT WOMAN's DEATH SENTENCE (that without any case by case review so it is not even as "humane??" as a DEATH PANEL) sentences women that cannot survive a pregnancy to death by interfering using a rigid NO EXCEPTIONS statute with the doctor / patient relationship.

Tea Party / Republican candidate for governor Carl Paladino launches a new assault on women's rights by denying women access to a political event. How much longer will it be before the Tea Party / Republicans call for the repeal of the 19th Amendment -- women's suffrage (right to vote)?

So, so desperate, you are losing your mind and it is funny to watch.

When the Tea Party says, "Take Our Country Back," they mean backward. Antebellum is the target age, but Jim Crow will do.

Why does CBS or any other news outlet even print this type of blatant lie. No where on any conservative list is to repeal any woman's rights. I know I am very conservative and do not support that agenda. I believe a woman's rights are on solid ground. I do not accept the idea of abortion on demand or for any reason. But that is just a difference of opinion than the liberal left and main stream media can't seem to wrap their head around. That anybody would differ on their opinion on issues. And this is an issue that has been contentious for many years now. It is not going to go away just because liberals say it must be so. That is why we have the freedom of speech, that is why we have the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. I understand the the liberals think these right only apply to them, they are wrong, it applies to everyone, including dissenters to the current policy.

You missed Sharron Angle's and Joe Miller's stance on RAPISTS' RIGHTS; Where the rapists' victims are to be required BY LAW to carry the RAPIST's babies to term and provide sole support for the Rapists' children. Even worse Ms Angle and Mr Miller want to impose BY LAW their judgement on the doctor patient relationship blocking life saving medical procedures to mothers whose only option to survive is the termination of the pregnancy. That is a pretty arrogant couple of usurpations of women's rights in this country advocated by the Tea Party / Republicans this year.
